$11.5 billion dollars a year is spent picking up litter each year. The fact of the matter is, we have way to much trash being littered and going into our oceans, being consumed by birds or other animals. Trash debris is really effecting our environment. A great example to show exactly how much trash we have is the Great Pacific Garbage Patch, also known as garbage island. This is an accumulation of trash in the ocean that is about 600,000 square miles long, that is two times the size of Texas. This was formed through all of the trash build up being pushed together from currents. Often times people throw their trash onto the ground or into the wrong bins. One way to fix that is to have multiple kinds of bins for trash and recycling. For example there could be three recycling bins, plastics, cardboard and paper. This would help keep everything organized and ensure it is being disposed of and reused properly. As for trash, most people just throw everything and anything in the trash. It is a lot more difficult to separate our trash bins because most things end up in the sa me place. That is why I think that we should start creating products that are way more environmental friendly. For example compostable cups, plates, and utensils should be sold more regularly. As well as selling less plastic bottles of water at places where it isn't necessary and insist people use reusable ones. Restaurants should only give straws upon request. Finally, large companies that use a lot of useless plastics, such as soda companies, and online delivery services should think about using more environmental friendly materials or limit the amount of plastic they use. All of these solutions could help lower the amount of waste we produce each year and possibly save marine animal.
