Zero Waste
An idea I have for reducing community or maybe even global carbon footprints is going zero waste. Lauren Singer is an environmental activist who runs a blog named "Trash is for Tossers". I have been following her and reading her posts for a couple of years now and she has always been a huge inspiration for me to reduce my waste as much as possible. She is able to fit five years worth of trash in one mason jar which is just amazing to me. Of course, going zero waste does not happen overnight and it's not easy. You have to purchase the right usable items and necessities, find alternatives for food that are package free, or buy products that are recyclable or will not produce waste, etc... No one is perfect and not everyone can fit all of their trash into a mason jar simply because some necessities are not used without producing some form of waste. Although, I believe if everyone at else tried their best to go zero waste we would be living in a much more healthier environment that we will all benefit from. And there are some very easy ways to begin such shopping in bulk, br inging your own reusable cutlery while eating out at a place that uses plastic utensils, use a reusable bag while shopping, compost your food scraps, just to name a few. Going zero waste (or reducing your waste as much as possible) helps the environment so much and definitely reduces a large portion of your carbon footprint. (I encourage people to have a look at her blog and maybe rethink your lifestyle and try to reduce your waste as much as you can. Here's a link to her blog: http://trashisfortossers.com)
