Student Footprints

Students from around the world calculated their class mean and standard deviations for their footprints and posted them on our world map.

Do you see differences across the globe? If so, why do you think those differences exist?

Did you use the calculator to try to reduce your footprint down to the average from a citizen of another country? What changes would you have to make to lower your footprint in this way? Are you going to try and take some of these actions in your daily life?

China carbon footprints

HowardCAI

My carbon footprint is much greater than the average of Chinese person.  The reason that I am so high is mostly food. Maybe I eat too much but I am thin. Transportation is also a big problem. To reduce my footprint, I think I can eat less, recycle more type of things(plastic, glass..) which I never do before, use less computer and buy less drinks in the Q-store. However, I think transportation might be hard to reduce, for I only took a flight once last year and I think that a far trip per year is necessary.

I think it's important to realize that it's not so much how much food you eat, but the kind of food. Meat and processed foods  or foods that are imported or have to travel long distances take more energy and would contribute more to your ecological footprint.
