Sustainable City

Here's your chance not just to be the mayor, but the original city planner as well! Imagine a medium sized city that would be developed with modern, low carbon transportation in mind, and other strategies to reduce the average citizens' carbon footprints.

What would that city look like? Would that make you more likely to want to live there?

Renewable Cities

Cities today are far to reliant on fossil fuels and out of date fuel. If we were to redesign a city to fit modern energy it would have to be based on renewable energy. To power the city it would be based on a wind and solar power grid. The public transportation would be based on electric vehicles charged with solar power. Homes would be receive subsidies if they supply their own solar panels to power their house. Like California offers with it's ITC, solar investment tax credit which provides tax incentive to switch to solar energy. The city would still have to rely on a small portion of fossil fuels, but in general our city would have a far small carbon footprint. It isn't the long term solution, but for now it would be a large step forward.

I agree fully. Cities nowadays are too reliant on unclean energy. Although most people want to erase this dependence it is currently just too much of a finical burden. The cost of solar panels are high. Fortunately there is good news. The technology is quickly advancing and getting cheaper. Along with those tax cuts you mentioned Brandon solar energy is greatly rising in sunny arrears. It's really good to see how the government and individual are behind moving towards clean energy when money allows.

It's great that solar energy is rising in areas that are sunnier, but have we found a way to efficiently transfer that energy to other cloudier areas?  And with that, how expensive would that get?  It's true that solar energy is getting cheaper, but relatively speaking for the common people I'm not sure it's at an affordable level and won't be for quite some time.  Regardless, I believe that it's a great idea for us to push towards this to lessen our carbon footprint significantly.
