Less Carbon Produced per Mile per Person when Carpooling
When I was younger, I never really understood the point of carpooling. I thought I carpooled with my friends so we could spend more time with each other and hang out more. Now I know the real reason. We carpool in this day and age because significantly decreases our carbon person. According to the Sightline Institute, an average car emits 1.1 pounds of carbon per mile with just a single driver. Now, if you have a driver and two passengers, this cuts the amount of carbon produced per mile per person into thirds since there are three people in the car. This leads to a MAJOR decrease in the amount of carbon emitted on the planet. Just a small change, like carpooling with someone just once or twice a week, could end up making a huge contribution to our carbon footprint.
