Here's your chance not just to be the mayor, but the original city planner as well! Imagine a medium sized city that would be developed with modern, low carbon transportation in mind, and other strategies to reduce the average citizens' carbon footprints.
What would that city look like? Would that make you more likely to want to live there?

My Sustainable City
If I had a sustainable city it would be perfect for everyone's needs. The roads would be set up on a grid system to make transportation easier. The city buses would be cheaper and accessible to everyone that way people can use it to get to work or school. The public transit buses would also be hybrid. Limited amounts of people would actually want to use their cars for their morning and evening commutes. And to even lower the footprint the city would let cars with license plates ending in even numbers only to drive on Sunday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday and the even-ending numbered cars can drive on the other days.
The design of the city's buildings and residential areas would be modern and urban, drawing in all sorts of people with different occupations to want to live there. All the buildings would be solar powered instead of gas powered. The businesses in my city would all pledge to limit their carbon emissions and water usage. My city would be close to the sea to harness the power of the ocean's waves for energy.
But even though it is close to the ocean we w ould need to really lower our CO2 emissions so we wouldn't effect the glacial melting so that we can avoid sea level rise on our sea side city. Since there already is global warming we would need a good evacuation plan in case of coastal flooding. Also the sea water would be helpful in case of a near by forest fire. The city would have free healthcare which is helpful for the heatwaves causing heat exhaustion and heatstroke from the intense heat waves cause by global warming. There would also be a perfect drain system for flooding due to global warming 's weather patterns.
Hmm..this is an interesting concept. I like the basic plan of it but it would definitely a much more thought out plan. There is actually a "green community" in Gainesville, FL. I was trying to find it's webpage online and I ran across a website that has a listing by state of them. Here's the link if you're interested in taking a look...http://www.greenecocommunities.com/Florida/1.html
I really like this idea. However, the cost of running a city like this and building the solar panels may be difficult. Also, how will you regulate and inforce the days when cars with certain license plates can drive? If free health care is available, will the taxes of the residents be higher?
