New Uses for Seaweed: an "Aquacultural Revolution"?
A recent article by Sandrine Ceurstemont, editor of the New Scientist, describes the growing desire to utilize seaweed for various medical and energy related purposes, as well as using the gel collected from the seaweed to help protect organisms from disease and manage diabetes. However, there is concern about the sustainability concerning available ocean area, and whether seaweed should even be farmed in the ocean as opposed to in water areas on land farms.
