Sustainable City

Here's your chance not just to be the mayor, but the original city planner as well! Imagine a medium sized city that would be developed with modern, low carbon transportation in mind, and other strategies to reduce the average citizens' carbon footprints.

What would that city look like? Would that make you more likely to want to live there?

My Sustainable City!

When I think of the word sustainable, I think of humans preserving the environment, but still living comfortably. My city would have many amenities that would each person's carbon footprint, resulting in a comfort living environment that we can preserve for the generations to come. First, I would promote different forms of transportation to help lower the transportation carbon footprint. I would promote using easy access bicycles and bicycle lanes. I would also have many more HOV lanes on roads to promote carpooling, which would greatly reduce each person's carbon footprint. To help promote carpooling, on the toll roads, I would reduce the cost of the toll if the car occupied 2 or more people in it. I would have the city grocery stores use reusable bags and containers in their stores, to reduce the production of plastic.  I would have timed showers that will shut off if they are left  on for an absurd amount of time.  I would have each house have at least one solar panel on their roof. This one small change would greatly reduce the amount of energy coming from a power pl ant. According to the National Renewal Energy Laboratory, solar panels greatly reduce the cost of heating and cooling your house, and it reduces our carbon footprint by reducing the amount of energy you get from the factory! You can read more about this topic in the link below! My city would also be full of parks and lots of trees, so that the city is filled with good, clean air. You would want to live in my sustainable city because you can enjoy your normal daily routines and still feel good that you are preserving the environment by reducing your carbon footprint!
