Sustainable City

Here's your chance not just to be the mayor, but the original city planner as well! Imagine a medium sized city that would be developed with modern, low carbon transportation in mind, and other strategies to reduce the average citizens' carbon footprints.

What would that city look like? Would that make you more likely to want to live there?

Other means of Transportation

A great way to reduce your carbon footprint is to avoid riding in vehicles any time you can. Riding bikes, walking, or running to places nearby is great for you and the environment. It's a fun and easy way to get to places, rather than having a 3 min ride in a car. Another good way is to use the public transportation system. I regularly take the Quickline Metro twice a day; to and from school. I am not the only one. There are several Strake students and one other girl from Agnes. As a result, my transportation section in the footprint was very small, especially compared to the “average.”

I completely agree with you on this. I never drive anywhere unnecessary. I will only drive places if I absolutely need to or if it's extremely far away. I take the bus everyday to school too instead of driving myself back and forth between campuses and home. If there's a bus that drives by everybody's houses, there's no need to drive unless you have other places to go that the bus won't take you. My transportation was low compared to my region average and other people in my class because I don't take unnecessary means of travel.

I agree with you Lauren. Walking somewhere is fun, especially if you're with friends. If you're walking somewhere it reduces carbon from the (like you said 3 min car ride).

These are some great ideas on how to be more energy efficient and environmentally friendly. I only drive when I have to: if no one else in my family can get to the grocery store or they need to me to run errands, if I have to pick something up from school, etc.
