Here's your chance not just to be the mayor, but the original city planner as well! Imagine a medium sized city that would be developed with modern, low carbon transportation in mind, and other strategies to reduce the average citizens' carbon footprints.
What would that city look like? Would that make you more likely to want to live there?

Creating an Environmentally Friendly City
When creating an environmentally friendly city there are a lot of complicated factors to consider. How and where will all the waste be disposed? How will people be able to get around? How are people going to get energy? How and where will people have access to wholesome food and clean water? Focusing on transportation, I think providing multiple options of moving around is essential. In today's cities, buses and different forms of trains, like BART, AMTRAK, or subways, are extremely important forms of transportation people rely on to get around. However, the amount of energy they use, and waste they create makes a prominent impact on city air and resources. To try and decrease the environmental impact buses and trains have on the environment, solar and electrical energy should be greatly utilized. Similar to electrical or solar powered cars, perhaps buses and trains could be created to mostly rely on the sun or electricity and only a small amount of gas. Once people get off the trains or buses, bikes would be available for the public if the place they’re going is still pretty far, or if people just don't want to walk. This system is the same as the bike system in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania called Bike Share. There are bike stations located all over the city and people can pay a fee to use them for however long they want. Since bike stations are located all over the city the bikes can be returned to any of the stations, so then people wouldn't have to bike all the way back to the same station they got their bike from. Along with buses and trains, cars are another common form of transportation. The development of hybrid cars like priuses has helped decrease stress on the environment, but not on a large enough scale. In my city, carpool systems like Uber would be constantly available if people didn't want to use the solar and electrical powered buses or subways.
