Sustainable City

Here's your chance not just to be the mayor, but the original city planner as well! Imagine a medium sized city that would be developed with modern, low carbon transportation in mind, and other strategies to reduce the average citizens' carbon footprints.

What would that city look like? Would that make you more likely to want to live there?

A Healthy City, An Environmentally Friendly City

As the world advances technologically, we are always hearing about new gadgets to track our physical activity. But is that really motivating us to be more active? It is simply filling up landfills with electronics. Some might even believe that this new technology is not promoting anyone to become anymore active. Cities could build bike paths or designate bike lanes. Bike riding does not require any fancy gadgets, nor does it emit greenhouse gases like driving does. Not only is biking easier on our environment, but it also gets us active. If more highly populated areas made it easier to bike, I think more people would take advantage of the opportunity. So forget the gadgets and go for a bike ride! You'll be helping to save the environment and allowing yourself to live a healthier lifestyle.

You are right in saying that we have new gadgets that track our physical activities, but they may or may not motivate us. Even if they do not motivate us, the idea that we need to get up and walk around for a bit will be stuck in our minds.
How are we simply filling up landfills with electronics? Do we throw the expensive technology away? I don't know about you but I for sure would hate seeing my phone in the trashcan.
Cities already have bike paths. No one tends to bike where I live because everything is far apart. If I could bike to school I would but biking 15 miles a day to get there and back is a pain. Not to mention that school starts already at 7 so I would have to get up even earlier than I already do.
What would we really bike ride for though. No shops and restaurants are nearby me. Every thing is 10-20 miles away from my house. Though biking may help the environment, it is not very efficient. I agree that using cars very often is bad, but if you carpool with a bunch of other people you are still helping the environment.
There are other ways to li ving a healthy lifestyle rather than just biking. You can run or even take a trip to the gym. According to _everyday health_ http://www.everydayhealth.com/fitness-p … l-day.aspx sitting around all day and not being active can lead to you being more at risk in getting breast and colon cancer.

In my neighborhood there are many bike paths ,but I have noticed that many neighborhoods in Texas don't. I think that bike paths should be included in more neighborhoods. Unlike driving to the house of a friend that lives in your neighborhood you can ride a bike there. It's healthier for the environment because biking doesn't emit green house gases. On the subject of gadgets I think one of the main reasons these devices don't work is that many people try to cheat them.
