In my sustainable city, I would have a regular trash can, a recycling bin, and a compost bin where there are normally just trashcans. Citizens can then dispose of their trash in the correct container. Also, I would have several bike stations around town. At the bike stations, you would be able to rent a bike for a reasonable price and ride it for a day before you would have to return it back to the station. Also my city would have a bike lane in the street and the sidewalks would be well paved so it would be easy to walk, scooter, or ride a bike on the sidewalk. My city would have several public transportation systems such as a bus system or a subway. Both of which would be kept very clean to encourage people to use them.  My city would also endorse a “Get Fit” health program which would promote citizens to use bikes or walk. Also, the “Get Fit” program would advise citizens to watch less TV and to play outside, which would help them reduce their carbon footprint and gain an appreciation for the outdoors.

This sounds like a great city! I would also add programs in the schools that would educate kids about the environment and they impact that they can make and what they can do to help.  Also, the houses could be very energy-efficient and use solar panels.

That was a good suggestion about educating kids about the environment, because people will be more willing to protect something they know about. And teaching them about the environment can foster a love of nature and create a drive to protect it.
