Here's your chance not just to be the mayor, but the original city planner as well! Imagine a medium sized city that would be developed with modern, low carbon transportation in mind, and other strategies to reduce the average citizens' carbon footprints.
What would that city look like? Would that make you more likely to want to live there?
Sustainable City >
Eco Friendly Affordable Housing
One of the many improvements needed for a sustainable city is to make efforts to be environmentally friendly on all economic levels. Recently, in San Jose, CA, such efforts were made. Residential developers constructing affordable housing recently made a push for more eco friendly and sustainable apartments. Not only do these features support the environment, they also cut living costs dramatically, create affordable housing for low-income families and provide incentive for the companies funding the projects. It creates a win-win situation all around. This also begins to solve an equity problem so common in our society. With more green affordable housing the city supports those in poverty and allows them to reduce their environmental impact when normally many sustainable housing upgrades are very expensive.

Aside from only affordable housing, it would be beneficial for more housing developments to consider becoming more environmentally friendly. A suggestion for this could be installing solar panels during construction rather than being installed later. Although many companies are already implementing greener policies, there is always room for improvement to contribute to becoming a more sustainable city.
