Sustainable City

Here's your chance not just to be the mayor, but the original city planner as well! Imagine a medium sized city that would be developed with modern, low carbon transportation in mind, and other strategies to reduce the average citizens' carbon footprints.

What would that city look like? Would that make you more likely to want to live there?

Public Transportation

Many people have their own cars to get to wherever they need to go, but by using public transportation we can decrease the amount of pollution in our cities. So many people drive their own cars to work or to other activities, but there are so many different kinds of public transportation available to us. We can even decrease the U.S. reliance on foreign oil by 40% if one out of every ten Americans took the bus instead of their car. The website has more information on the benefits of public transportation including the amount of money we could save by just taking the bus.

I agree with you about the need to use public transport more efficient! Almost every third drive we do is unnecessary and almost half of all car trips are shorter than 5 km. If there is an other option  than to drive a car , why not use it?

I know that I wouldn't want to be one of those people who's willing to ride a public bus everywhere but I would be willing to ride a bicycle everywhere because it is even more cleaner for the environment and is a great form of exercise.

Yes the public transportation is really mature and efficient right now, we should use more transportation instead of driving. Even more, we can try to walk to many place since walking has so many benefits, energy-saving, fitness, zero carbon released.

Riding bikes or scooters is an efficient way of getting from place to place. You could also carpool with other people to and from work/ school instead of taking your own car everywhere you go. Even taking the local bus is a great way of reducing the amount of pollution that gets put out into the atmosphere.

Indeed, but we to develop a city we must start from the basic planning. It is of course easy if we simply arrange well where and how our public transportation work, we will be able to build a better sustainable city.

I really agree with using more public transportation. I wish my town had public transportation, but since there isn't any, I have to use a car. I also think that if people can avoid using their car (ex. walking, bicycle) they can reduce their carbon footprint by a lot.

I think using more public transportation is a great idea, however, in a country with a lot of people like China, public transportation like bus or subway are always full of people and it is extremely crowded. I think riding bike might be a good choice if your destination wasn't too far away.
