Here's your chance not just to be the mayor, but the original city planner as well! Imagine a medium sized city that would be developed with modern, low carbon transportation in mind, and other strategies to reduce the average citizens' carbon footprints.
What would that city look like? Would that make you more likely to want to live there?
Sustainable City >
Public Transit is Legit
In my sustainable city, I would offer many forms of public transportation. I would have a subway system underground, buses that would take you around the city, and bikes that you could ride around the city and drop them off at different bike stations. I think that cities should make an effort to expand their public transportation systems, make them very accessible to citizens, and encourage the use of them. This would greatly decrease the carbon footprint of the city, since less people would be driving their own cars everywhere. If someone with a 20-mile round trip commute switched from driving their own car to using public transportation, it would reduce their daily carbon emissions by 20 pounds, which would amount to more than 4,800 pounds in a year. Public transportation is a convenient and efficient way to get around the city. If major cities improved their public transit systems and encouraged citizens to use them, then we could reduce our carbon footprint gr eatly.

Kelly, I like your idea. What do you think we can do to promote the idea of public transportation, in our cities similar to that of New York? I feel like people see public transportation as a dirty or unclean area. Is there a way we could change that? I feel like if we change it, then more people will enjoy public transportation instead of cars.
