Here's your chance not just to be the mayor, but the original city planner as well! Imagine a medium sized city that would be developed with modern, low carbon transportation in mind, and other strategies to reduce the average citizens' carbon footprints.
What would that city look like? Would that make you more likely to want to live there?
Sustainable City >
green city
My city would be all about being green. There would be recycling bins at every street corner to encourage recycling. According to http://www.ct.gov/deep/cwp/view.asp?a=2714&q=324880, Connecticut has passed an act in 1991 that enforces mandatory recycling. It is required for everyone. Their trash is sent to one of the six resource recovery facilities in Connecticut. These plants burn the trash as a fuel to generate electricity, and the resulting ash is buried in specially designed lined landfills. These plants have modern pollution controls to reduce air emissions produced from the combustion process. Another solution is the BigBelly Waste and Recycling Stations. It enables citizen to deploy waste, recycling, and compost stations, depending on an individual's needs. There are many benefits to this system. For example, it saves money, reduces litter, conserves fuel, reduces carbon footprint, and much more. It is found in all 50 United States and 47 other countries. For more information, go to http://bigbelly.com/solutions/stations/. This would surely make more people want to live in this city because it benefits the people in so many ways while at the same time benefiting the environment. In addition, To enforce the low carbon transportation, In would put reusable bike stations on street corners to promote exercise and sustainability. I realize this would be harder for people to do because of the issue of getting where you need to be at a certain time. Although, bike stations would still have a great impact on the environment.
