Here's your chance not just to be the mayor, but the original city planner as well! Imagine a medium sized city that would be developed with modern, low carbon transportation in mind, and other strategies to reduce the average citizens' carbon footprints.
What would that city look like? Would that make you more likely to want to live there?

What Needs To Happen First
The UN has a list of 17 actions and goals to happen in order to reach sustainable development. These topics range from good health, no poverty, gender equality, peace, and etc. In my opinion the most important goal or requirement on this list is quality education for all. in order for everyone to have good health, remove poverty, and promote equality for all they have to know what these things truly mean. in order to make healthy decisions, you have to know why certain foods are bad, why too much of something is unhealthy, and their reasons. People do not learn from being told not to do something, they learn from doing it and getting hurt. When they get hurt, they understand why it is bad for them, causing them to never do it again. If somebody does not know what Global Warming is, how can you expect our future generations to solve these problems? 103 million youth around the world cannot read. knowing, this gives us a perspective o where to start if we want to ma ke the world the best and safest place for our children and their children and so on.

Hi ebunusa, your post is really interesting and says some important truths. I agree with you on mostly of what you said, especially on the fact that people need to know and study to understand and solve problems.
Although this, I disagree with some of your thoughts: I don't think that giving people a quality education will be enough to solve the problem of pollution. Every day we see people who had a good schooling and education making actions that are bad for our planet, and I don't think that those people, who know how polluting bad is and how problematic it is, are better than others and make more ecological decisions. Take for example politicians: they had a good education, are clever, know why pollution is bad, but despite they know the problem of pollution they don't try to solve it: they just take decisions that are good for economy, and don't care about ecology.
So I don't think that giving quality education to everybody will be enough: having people who know problems is good, but it's not enough to solve them: it's not that easy, we have to find solutions and ma ke people accept them.
I hope I explained good my thoughts, please answer me and say me what you think about what I wrote.
I completely understand where you are coming form. But it's the people that aren't educated that can stand up and say what is wrong. They are the ones that make a difference. Although, it is a pity that many people blessed with a good education knowingly make the wrong decisions
I understand what you are both trying to say, but i have to say i agree with ebunusa. Now, what people do regarding the environment affects all of us. The atmosphere is all of ours and we have to find ways to preserve it, so while we can't control the actions of people, educated and not, we all can inform them what they truly are doing beneath the surface. While educating those around us may be hard and may cost a lot of money, i believe that with the help of our superiors we can gather all that we need to make this come true.
Aurora you're right: informing people about pollution and communicating them our knowledge about this argument is a very powerful way to help the ambient. But in fact, I don't think it's that easy: I think that we are all against pollution, but most of the people can't go further than their ideals; when it's the moment to have an ecological behavior, to do an effort to help the planet, they often waive. I don't think that the problem with those people is that they don't KNOW the danger for humans caused by the heating of Earth, if think their "problem" is that they don't WANT to help the planet, because they find it too difficult. I really don't know how to convince those people. Do you have any propositions?
You are right that probably no one supports pollution jaquesa, but many are not willing to give up the luxuries that bring about pollution. They shouldn't have to give everything up though. If more people had an education and awareness about pollution, we could make more environment safety utilities and equipment. At least one person in a planet of over 7 billion people has the answer, they just aren't given the chance.
what do you guys think of cattle ranching? Should we raise cattle?
