Sustainable City

Here's your chance not just to be the mayor, but the original city planner as well! Imagine a medium sized city that would be developed with modern, low carbon transportation in mind, and other strategies to reduce the average citizens' carbon footprints.

What would that city look like? Would that make you more likely to want to live there?

Make the Switch!

We use many lights in our everyday lives. They can be turned off and on with the flick of a switch. What most of us do not realize is what type of light bulbs we are using. Switching your incandescent light bulb to a CFL (compact fluorescent bulb) can save you up to 150 pounds of carbon dioxide a year! Also, Incandescent bulbs use much more energy to be heated. These bulbs are heated to about 2,300 degrees Celsius to light up a room! With all the heat being used to light up the bulb, it gives off heat which can make the current room hotter. On the contrary, CFL bulbs last much longer than incandescent bulbs and can save you money and energy!  For all of these reasons, make the switch!

I think that making a switch to CFL bulbs is definitely more efficient.  Eliminating the heat and carbon dioxide released will help to reduce the impact we have on the greenhouse effect.  Changing to CFL will also help reduce A/C use in the summertime because there will no longer be excess heat coming from the light bulbs.

Yes I am glad you agree! Hopefully our community will soon switch from incandescent light bulbs to CFL light bulbs in order to help our environment.
