Sustainable City

Here's your chance not just to be the mayor, but the original city planner as well! Imagine a medium sized city that would be developed with modern, low carbon transportation in mind, and other strategies to reduce the average citizens' carbon footprints.

What would that city look like? Would that make you more likely to want to live there?

Carpool and other modes of transportation

Carpooling is another way to cut down on your carbon footprint. By carpooling, the people are using one car to get to a place rather than say 4. People could also uses public transit to cut down on their carbon footprint, but this way could also produce more carbon if say they were the only person on the bus. Another way to cut down on carbon emissions is electric cars. Electric cars do not add to the carbon in the air, which is a great bonus, as well as they do not uses oil. The problem with them is the charge of the car, meaning how far will the car go without having to recharge it? This problem is hard to fix as we don't know how to create this battery and have the mass number of charging stations that are needed(think gas station). While some cars exist that could potentially fill this role, they happen to be quite expensive or lack the charge needed for groups that carpool. I would love to see the world drive more electric cars but at this time, but I don't believe it will be able to be produce enough cars at the price the people could afford.

I agree with your ideas about carpooling. Carpooling is a great way to lower your carbon footprint. In addition, my mom has an electric car and her work offers charging station so she usually doesn't run into problems getting to and from work. I feel that if more companies and schools offered these types of charging stations, then our atmosphere would have a lot less carbon in it. Also, since our house has solar panels, when we charge the car at home it doesn't increase our footprint. Another way to reduce carbon footprints is if you are in close proximity to an area and you are debating if you should walk or drive, just walk because it will help save the environment. Also, riding your bike is another great way of getting around places that are near you.
