Sustainable City

Here's your chance not just to be the mayor, but the original city planner as well! Imagine a medium sized city that would be developed with modern, low carbon transportation in mind, and other strategies to reduce the average citizens' carbon footprints.

What would that city look like? Would that make you more likely to want to live there?

Transportation and Carpooling

A great way to be sustainable is finding ways to reduce the amount of carbon dioxide in the air. One way to do this is using a carpool to get to school and other places we need to go. This keeps more cars off the road that are polluting and filling our air with Carbon Dioxide. Another great way is the use of bikes to get around. Not only is this a very sustainable and eco-friendly option, it is really fun and it encourages us to get outdoors and be active!

I totally agree with you Katie! Cars and trucks amount to approximately 1/5 of the total carbon emissions in the United States. If we were able to reduce the amount of cars on the roads, it would inevitably reduce our carbon footprint. In addition to your great ideas, using public transportation is also helpful in reducing carbon dioxide emissions.

Yes! Cars and trucks have a big carbon footprint. Ways to make our carbon footprint smaller is through carpooling, like you said, along with that taking public transportation is another way to decrease your carbon footprint. Along with carpooling by make cities near you "greener" you can plant plants to help the carbon cycle with photosynthesis and reusing containers and water bottles. Anything makes a difference!
