Making Bike Lanes Essential-Follow Up
After looking through more articles and reading comments, I have made some new discoveries. While biking to work and arriving sweaty generally isn't preferred, there are some solutions to this. Some office buildings have showers. If your office or work building has no shower, then see if there is a fitness center or gym nearby to rinse off and get ready for the day. Carrying your personal items shouldn't be a problem either because of the baskets or frame bags that can hold your items. Also, because most cities have traffic that slows to even 10mph, biking has the possibility of being faster than driving. Many cities have already made the first step and initiated biking programs. The City of Houston, Texas, has a project started called Houston BikeWay. Goals of this program include increasing riding and making it safer to ride long distance to work or school. Though there are some setbacks to using bikes as transportation, the pros out-weigh the cons. With new solutions and ideas coming to all cities, with our help, riding a bicycle can become the next common method of t ransportation.
