Student Footprints

Students from around the world calculated their class mean and standard deviations for their footprints and posted them on our world map.

Do you see differences across the globe? If so, why do you think those differences exist?

Did you use the calculator to try to reduce your footprint down to the average from a citizen of another country? What changes would you have to make to lower your footprint in this way? Are you going to try and take some of these actions in your daily life?

Michael Bovenzi: Mooresville, NC, USA (Age 16)

MichaelB

Hello, my name is Michael! I am a student at Mooresville High School in North Carolina. In my AP Environmental Science class, we have been learning about our ecological footprints. My carbon footprint total was 7048. I was very shocked by this; the average for the rest of my region is 15918. I expected my carbon footprint to be much higher, as I do not make very many efforts around my house to reduce it. I suppose, however, that I don't really have much to change in this case. I am doing relatively well. Perhaps turning my computer off when I'm not using it and not leaving my electronic devices plugged in while done charging would help reduce mine even lower.
