Sustainable City

Here's your chance not just to be the mayor, but the original city planner as well! Imagine a medium sized city that would be developed with modern, low carbon transportation in mind, and other strategies to reduce the average citizens' carbon footprints.

What would that city look like? Would that make you more likely to want to live there?

If I were to rule over a city, I would make many changes in order to reduce CO2 and prevent global warming. I know that factories such as oil refineries are a heavy source of CO2, so the first thing I would do is to have a very limited amount of oil refineries. Second, I would add as many trees and natural entities as possible, and be near a body of water like the ocean, so there would be a great amount of CO2 sinks. Lastly, I would try to use more solar energy, which is renewable, sustainable, and environmentally friendly while not producing more CO2 into the environment.

I I agree with you that we should cut down on refineries because as you can see refineries create a ton of CO2 emissions  http://numero57.net/2008/03/20/carbon-d … -of-crude/ . For example one gallon of diesel has 10.493kg of CO2 emissions.  Also I think it would be great to use natural entities and reusable resources so we can keep the earth more natural and in a better living environment for every piece of life on it.   The only thing is you can't always live by a CO2 sink so we just need to learn how to put less CO2 into our living spaces and atmosphere.

I agree factories continuously put CO2 into the atmosphere. The fossil fuels they use enhance effects of global warming. Also, it is very important to find other sources of power in order to cut down on the CO2 emmisions. Solar power is a great source of energy!

I agree with all of your points. I didn't think of cutting down on oil refineries or building the city near a body of water. Most major cities in the world near bodies of water because they provide the cities with transportation, trade, a water, natural defense and fertile farmland, but having that in junction with the environmental benefits would truly create a sustainable city.

I agree that limiting oil refineries and creating lots of CO2 sinks will help your city to be more sustainable. One question is how to cut down on the CO2 produced by the everyday citizen since they produce over 18 tons of CO2 per year. This is a lot of C02 and if you can cut that down then you will have a completely sustainable city.
