Here's your chance not just to be the mayor, but the original city planner as well! Imagine a medium sized city that would be developed with modern, low carbon transportation in mind, and other strategies to reduce the average citizens' carbon footprints.
What would that city look like? Would that make you more likely to want to live there?

A City of Hope
My Posting: Imagine a city with the lowest carbon emissions possible, a city of hope. In a regular city the amount of fossil fuels being burned by cars are unbelievable. In order to cut down on emissions your first thought might be to use hybrid cars, but that would still involve gas. You then might think about a fully electric car with zero carbon emissions. The electricity for the car still would have to come from somewhere. Eliminating the use of gas powered cars in general would need to happen in my city. Biking is the best way to have short distance city transportation while having zero carbon emissions. In my city almost everyone would ride a bike and for those few people who are unable ride could drive fully electric vehicles. Power for the electric vehicles could come from clean energy from the sun, solar power. Which is why every rooftop in my city would be covered in solar panels.
Each year the average person emits 6 tons of carbon from driving alone. If my city was the size of San Francisco then it would have around 860,000 people. The carbon emissions from all of these peoples combined driving would be 5,160,000 tons and that’s from driving alone. In my city, bikes would replace gas powered cars so all of those carbon emissions would not exist. In 2010 New York city produced 54 million metric tons of carbon into the atmosphere according to CarbonVisuals.com. You can check out a video on New York’s carbon emissions at http://www.carbonvisuals.com/projects/n … -real-time. This video is a great example of what my city will aim not to do and instead cut down on the total carbon emissions by having bikes as the main mode of transportation. Biking is not just good for the environment but also for the fitness and well being of a person. My city would be low on carbon emissions and promote good health for people and the earth. That is why my city would be “A City of Hope”.
