Here's your chance not just to be the mayor, but the original city planner as well! Imagine a medium sized city that would be developed with modern, low carbon transportation in mind, and other strategies to reduce the average citizens' carbon footprints.
What would that city look like? Would that make you more likely to want to live there?

What can you do?
There are many things you can do in your city to help subdue the effects of climate change in your area. Some of these include going solar, carpooling, ride your bike and walking rather than driving, healthier eating, composting, and taking shorter showers.
Going solar is a very big step toward being more eco friendly. By going solar you can not only save and earn money but you can also run your entire house and your car on solar electricity. By using solar electricity you no longer need to burn fossil fuels and gas. However if you are still using gass a smart way to emit less carbon dioxide is to turn off the lights when you leave a room and take shorter showers. Another way to be more eco friendly is to carpool. Carpooling with others helps take some cars off the road reducing the amount of CO2 released into the atmosphere. To prevent further carbon dioxide emissions you can ride your bike or walk places rather than drive.
To prevent global warming through your eating habits you can eat less meat. You can also eat more locally grown and in season foods. Another way to be prevent global warming food wise is to compost your food scraps. By composting you create less trash to be taken to the landfill, and make natural fertilizer and soil to use in your backyard.
It is very important to make these changes in our lives because of the horrible impact of global warming around the world. Wild fires are out of control, heatwaves, droughts, and extreme weather are all effects of climate change. If we don't act it might be too late by the time we do. I agree. Many people don't realize the choices we make daily that may not seem like a big deal can really impact our environment. For example, taking shorter showers, turning off the lights in your room, and reusing your own water bottle can help reduce your carbon footprint. Using substances like styrofoam that you can't recycle or compost create negative outcomes for our environment. Making good choices when recycling and using appliances are extremely important and people need to be aware of how their actions affect Earth's atmosphere.
I agree with both of you. There are a certain number of things that we can do to lower our carbon footprint. We can, like you said, take shorter showers and we can also carpool. One thing that we should all start doing is using more public transportation. If public transportation is not accessible for you, you can carpool with a group of 4 or 5 more people to lower the amount of cars on the roads. Composting is also very important. At my house, any food scraps we have, we dispose of them in the green compost bin and this way we produce less trash. Another way we can lower our carbon footprints is by turning off lights when we are leaving a room. I usually do, but there are certain times where I just forget to turn my lights off. By being more particular about this, we can lower the amount of electricity we use.
