Here's your chance not just to be the mayor, but the original city planner as well! Imagine a medium sized city that would be developed with modern, low carbon transportation in mind, and other strategies to reduce the average citizens' carbon footprints.
What would that city look like? Would that make you more likely to want to live there?

The Potential of rich and able countries/cities
I feel as if there is much potential in most western (european fx.) cities for upgrading and/or adding measures/jobs which would focus entirely on protecting and restoring original natural habitats. It doesn't have to be on a huge scale, it can just as well be the youth of a city/place (kindergarten - 16 years ish) that are put in some sort of Eco-restoration project. Governments could easily do this by lowering salaries of the, already very rich, government officials and raising taxes on the richer part of the country.
The countries in question are already rich, shouldnt they focus on such matters, 'cause they can?
Even in my very small village (in Iceland), are the students of the elementary school taught about the once forested area that the area once was. They also plant trees and are taught how to think self-sufficient/sustainable. This is just a small example how even the smallest village can do something in the fight against pollution and other related matters.
Multiply that to a much bigger city, and you'll get quite a change!
