Through a widespread action of using less heat and air conditioning, driving less (and when doing so, using energy-efficient cars), buying energy-efficient products, and putting an end to factories that emit the harmful greenhouse gases, a city can thrive without the damaging consequences that greenhouse gasses bring.

In terms of transportation, the use of efficient mass transportation systems (trains, buses, subways) leads to lesser cars on the road, less gas and fuel consumption, and lesser pollution. Utilizing renewable sources of energy (solar, wind, and hydroelectric power) can reduce the consumption of fossil fuels. Through energy conservation, and more efficient use of energy, such as smart technology (Ex: remotely controlling temperature of your house when you are not there), turning off the lights when not in use, turning off the water when not in use, and the use LED light bulbs can lower the emission of greenhouse gases in the city's households. Designing houses in an energy efficient way (Ex: allowing more natural light to enter the house, and using sustain able building materials, and reusing building materials) can be used. Utilizing energy efficient home appliances, (water efficient toilets, shower heads, faucets) can be installed. Supporting local economy, through buying goods that are produced locally (if you can produce from a community/city garden, you will not have to ship the vegetation supply), will lessen the carbon footprint. Supporting / Providing Local Activities will push people outside of their homes, simultaneously lessening the carbon emission of houses. Following the rules of proper disposal of waste, lessening the use of plastic, and enforcing the reusing, and recycling of materials will decrease the amount of pollution and waste produced by the community

An ideal energy sustainable society should be able to Produce energy using renewable resources, Consume in an efficient way, and properly Dispose and decrease the amount of waste by renewing and reusing materials and products as much as possible to decrease pollution.
