Sustainable City

Here's your chance not just to be the mayor, but the original city planner as well! Imagine a medium sized city that would be developed with modern, low carbon transportation in mind, and other strategies to reduce the average citizens' carbon footprints.

What would that city look like? Would that make you more likely to want to live there?

If I were to develop a sustainable city I would include lots of inexhaustible resources such as solar panels and wind turbines. I would include inexhaustible resources because it will keep the CO2 levels down drastically.  According to Conserve Energy Future, solar energy is almost completely clean and does not create pollutants to use.  I learned from an article by the Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy that wind energy does not create the harmful pollutants that fossil fuels create, and is completely inexhaustible.  Solar, Wind, and other Inexhaustible energy sources are great ways to make cities more green.

I believe that to get to this process, you can’t just enforce laws. Therefore, you have to make strides into gaining a renewable city via making switching to renewable energy rewarding and cheaper.
For instance, if someone were to install solar energy, and they were a citizen who needed every penny, then a lowered electric bill for using solar would make solar energy have a more mainstream appeal, as you are rewarded for it.
Also, I would create districts for people to live as close to their jobs as possible. Then, I would make the society run on trains that would use renewable energy for long haul jobs. As a result, not only will traffic subside with less need for driving, but the emissions will plummet as a result of walking and biking, which will be done by them living in close proximity to their job(s).
