Sustainable City

Here's your chance not just to be the mayor, but the original city planner as well! Imagine a medium sized city that would be developed with modern, low carbon transportation in mind, and other strategies to reduce the average citizens' carbon footprints.

What would that city look like? Would that make you more likely to want to live there?

Our Sustainable City

There are many ways that communities can make their cities much more sustainable. For one, I live in an area where my city has decided to install bike stations all around us. Instead of using a car and adding more CO2 to our atmosphere, we can ride bikes to and from our destinations. This system is also relatively cheap, so even people with a lower income would be able to afford a membership to this bike system. There are stations every few blocks, so i'm sure that in a couple years there will be a lower amount of CO2 in the air and our city will continue to become more eco-friendly.

I think that your idea of having more bikes is a good idea to create a more sustainable city. In our world today, so much CO2 is released by cars, especially in the bay area where the population is high, and you need cars to travel places. Even though we do have a lot of bike lanes, I agree that having more would be even better for lowering the amount of CO2. I also like the idea that this system would be cheap and affordable so everyone could use bikes.

I would agree that putting bikes around the city would help decrease CO2  levels in large cities.

I would agree that putting bikes around the city would help decrease CO2 levels in large cities.  According to Streetsblog USA, a study from the Institute for Transportation and Development Policy found that biking could reduce a city's transportation carbon emissions by 11 percent.

How would you make this possible? A big potential issue with this could be the distance between. I believe there are two ways to go at this...
1: Create a city that primarily relies on renewable subway trains that has transportation lie in renewable carpooling and not wasteful individual cars.
2: If I were to start from scratch, I would make the city split in to separate districts, in order to make people live closer to their jobs to make biking and walking possible for people e.g. Financial District, Science District, Law district, et cetera. Not only would this heavily reduce emissions, but it would also reduce traffic. All in all, it would be more efficient and happy for the citizens.
