Student Footprints

Students from around the world calculated their class mean and standard deviations for their footprints and posted them on our world map.

Do you see differences across the globe? If so, why do you think those differences exist?

Did you use the calculator to try to reduce your footprint down to the average from a citizen of another country? What changes would you have to make to lower your footprint in this way? Are you going to try and take some of these actions in your daily life?

hello, after I done my Carbon Footprint, which is  , when i compare to the average footprint, I found that I was too high from it, that's scared me! I don't ever know I had done that much of Carbon reduce to the world, I realized some thing that I used to do is not good. So I decided to change, I will try my best to use water and electricity in appropriately, don't wasted the thing that is not necessary. and I will trying riding bike instead of using other transportation.

I think that riding the bus and/or bike will help reduce the carbon footprint for transportation. You could also carpool with other people that are going to the same location as you. Say you were going to school, you could carpool with a neighbor. One of your parents could drive you and the neighbor to school, then the neighbor's parents could pick you up. If you drive yourself to school, you could drive you and your neighbor to school one day. Then the next day your neighbor could drive both of you to school. This helps save gas and reduce your carbon footprint. You could also walk to places that are close to you. If the school is walking distance, try walking to school instead of driving or riding the bus. If a friend's house or store is walking distance, you could walk there.

I agree that having rather high footprints is scary. Although, changing your main transportation to biking rather than with motorized vehicles would definitely help. And just think, if more people in your area would do the same, the air quality around you would increase greatly and lead to even more positive results!

Riding your bike is a great way to reduce your footprint. Also if you have a lot of sunlight in your house you can leave the lights off more which will help reduce  your footprint.
