Student Footprints

Students from around the world calculated their class mean and standard deviations for their footprints and posted them on our world map.

Do you see differences across the globe? If so, why do you think those differences exist?

Did you use the calculator to try to reduce your footprint down to the average from a citizen of another country? What changes would you have to make to lower your footprint in this way? Are you going to try and take some of these actions in your daily life?

Hello, my name is Daniel. I am from Staten Island, New York, and I am 16 years old. My carbon footprint was 12,560 kgs. My average was about 3,000 kgs below average. The majority of my carbon footprint came from my home. I wasn't surprised that my carbon footprint was low because I do not have a car or a license. I am pleased with my carbon footprint but I can lower it by using the A/C less and changing the lights in my home to more energy efficient ones.

I believe that the majority of my footprint came from my home as well. I think that lowering our footprints is super important, but I also know how hard that can be as we have become accustomed to our lifestyles. A lot of "Go Green" materials are more expensive than the alternatives. I feel like something needs to be done about those costs, because otherwise people won't be able to afford energy-efficient household items. Good job being under the average! Keep working towards a lower footprint.

I am also a 16 year old from North Carolina, the majority of your footprint came from your home but the majority of mine came from transportation. This could be since I have a car and you do not. Some other ways you could lower your footprint from your home is composting.
