Student Footprints

Students from around the world calculated their class mean and standard deviations for their footprints and posted them on our world map.

Do you see differences across the globe? If so, why do you think those differences exist?

Did you use the calculator to try to reduce your footprint down to the average from a citizen of another country? What changes would you have to make to lower your footprint in this way? Are you going to try and take some of these actions in your daily life?

REDUCE CARBON FOOTPRINT

JerryH

Hello. My name is Jerry Hong, from China. I calculated my carbon footprint yesterday, that makes me feel I have to regard my carbon footprint. Because it's pretty higher than the average person from China.  Their footprint is only about 2338kg. But my carbon footprint is about 13344kg. I think that's a large number. And I think the mostly reason is I took plane to travel and didn't take too much public transportation when I went out. I think this year, I shouldn't take more public transportation when I go out. I should turn off the electric appliances when I don't use them. Ride a bike to go out side when the distance is not that long. Eat the local food instead of eating the food that need to cure. These are my personal solution to reduce my carbon footprint.

If you don't take public transportation, how can you get to somewhere far?

JerryH

Sorry, I don't understand what you are talking about

NeoH

What do you mean?

JerryH

I mean your sentence is making non-sense. I got confused with that.

I think you have good plans on how to solve some of the issues. The only thing I would add is to make sure you unplug chargers to appliances once they're done charging or if you aren''t using them. Also, you can be sure to turn off the lights and fans when you leave.

I agree with a lot of what you are saying. I would add that most likely because you have access to computers and internet this probably means you are a better off person in your country. This would contribute to your transportation use and your food intake.
