Student Footprints

Students from around the world calculated their class mean and standard deviations for their footprints and posted them on our world map.

Do you see differences across the globe? If so, why do you think those differences exist?

Did you use the calculator to try to reduce your footprint down to the average from a citizen of another country? What changes would you have to make to lower your footprint in this way? Are you going to try and take some of these actions in your daily life?

carbon footprint in China

justinlan

Hi everyone i'm Justin Lan from China. My test result about the carbon footprint i think it is higher than the average. Maybe i waste the resources sometime. And according my result i think i should have some behavior to save some resources from the Earth to take the responsibility of the sustainability. For example i can take the public transport when i want to go outside instead of take the cars.If the distance is close enough i can ride the bike or by foot. Or remembering turn off the water tap when i do not use it. I think if just one person do that the power will be so weak but if lots of people done that it will give the Earth a obvious change.

I do agree with you when you say that if everyone looks at their carbon footprint and makes changes, the Earth will be helped. I also need to change my lifestyle to decrease my carbon footprint.

Greetings, Justin! I'm Michael, from North Carolina in the US. Public transport is definitely a good way to reduce your carbon footprint. It is true that if only one person attempts to change the world, nothing much will happen. However, keep in mind that there are many people who attempt to lower their carbon footprints, and every action does have an impact on the larger picture, no matter how small. Yes, just one person doing that won't have a large impact, but several people already do it, and you can only help them by trying to reduce yours. Awareness campaigns could also be a great way to get people to help out; then, the Earth will definitely change.
