Students from around the world calculated their class mean and standard deviations for their footprints and posted them on our world map.
Do you see differences across the globe? If so, why do you think those differences exist?
Did you use the calculator to try to reduce your footprint down to the average from a citizen of another country? What changes would you have to make to lower your footprint in this way? Are you going to try and take some of these actions in your daily life?

My carbon footprint
My total carbon footprint for last year was 18,057 kg of CO2. The average for Florida, where I live, is 13,115 kg. This is well above the worldwide average of 3,791 kg. Prior to calculating my carbon footprint I anticipated to be similar to the average of my region. I believed my low levels for home, food, and purchases was going to offset the high level of CO2 emissions from aircraft travel. That was a bit naive since the CO2 emissions of aircraft transportation are staggering high. Since I cannot completely offset my carbon footprint from flying by myself, please consider taking some of the initiatives proposed on this website https://www.carbonfund.org/reduce I promise to make a bigger effort to reduce my carbon footprint.
Thank you!
Hi Maria, I'm Francis from California and I have a carbon footprint of 15,393 kgs compared to the average of 9,727 kg for my state. I also found that transportation, especially air travel, was the biggest contributor to my footprint, being over half of my carbon totals. I took a look at the site you posted and it has some nice tips that I will try to start following. One of the suggestions it puts forward is to patronize businesses with an environmental agenda. I found this article from 2012 that ranks different airlines on criteria including fuel conservation, alternative energy research, recycling, and carbon offset programs. http://travel.cnn.com/explorations/life … led-173008 I encourage you to check it out. I will now try to be more conscientious of the different businesses I support and look into how thoughtful they are towards their own carbon footprints.
