Student Footprints

Students from around the world calculated their class mean and standard deviations for their footprints and posted them on our world map.

Do you see differences across the globe? If so, why do you think those differences exist?

Did you use the calculator to try to reduce your footprint down to the average from a citizen of another country? What changes would you have to make to lower your footprint in this way? Are you going to try and take some of these actions in your daily life?

CRohrer - USA

Hello everyone!  My name is Chris Rohrer.  I am in my final semester at St. Johns River State College in Orange Park, Florida.  My total carbon footprint is 26,742 kgs of CO2 per year, compared to an average of 17,807 kgs for the United States and 3791 kg worldwide.  My carbon footprint is higher than the average.  My appetite for good food as topped the chart.  I averaged 18,006 kgs and the regional average was 3685 kgs.  I thought my carbon footprint for home would have been the least but it came in second.  I am very self-conscious about turning light off when not in use but I am horrible about keeping electronics on such as my desktop and laptop computers.  My average for home was 7466 kgs compared to the regional average 7069 kgs.  The last two, transportation and purchases were much lower than the regional average.  This could be related to the age of the person completing the carbon footprint.  My transportation average was 644 kgs compared to the regional average of 4811 kgs and my purchase average was 626 kgs compared to the regional average of 2242 kgs.  I will  have to rethink some my eating habits in the near future.  Here are two links that will help with you with your carbon footprint.

I think the way you reflect yourself was great, and you have list the details of data which is great too, but honestly your carbon footprint was high that it not only higher than mines but also higher then the average of China. And I would suggest you to eat less or eat less meat. For the point of electric using, I would like to remind you in using those electricity because the waste of electricity in daily life can cause a huge amount of CO2 emission.

You are being very honest with yourself which I think will be very helpful. Regarding your high food footprint, maybe you could try to cut back on certain meats or other foods like that, or try and find more organic foods to eat. Also, try to be very careful about leaving on electronics. You could maybe put a little reminder by your computer to remind you to turn it off.
