Students from around the world calculated their class mean and standard deviations for their footprints and posted them on our world map.
Do you see differences across the globe? If so, why do you think those differences exist?
Did you use the calculator to try to reduce your footprint down to the average from a citizen of another country? What changes would you have to make to lower your footprint in this way? Are you going to try and take some of these actions in your daily life?

About my carbon footprint (China)
My footprint is overproof about twenty thousand more than average Chinese person. That mean I waste more resource than average Chinese person.
For change this status quo, I will take more care in my daily life. Because the carbon index I let out in the whole index is just under the "travel". I can take short shower(I love take long shower.....always take like 1h...) and I should turn my lamp down when I'm sleeping in night.
I also am far over my country's average by about 5 thousand. Most of my footprint is from home instead of travel because I live with 5 other people. I also take long showers and plan to shorten those to decrease my carbon footprint.
I am also way over my country's average. Most of my footprint comes from traveling. I love taking longer showers too, but I am going to try to take shorter ones from now on. I also fall asleep with my lamp on sometimes as night by accident.
Most of my carbon footprint comes from traveling as well. I also used to take really long showers and I've seen my footprint go down as I've taken shorter showers now.
I think that you can reduce your carbon footprint by a ton if you take shorter showers. Also if you turn your light off will help too! Hopefully if you just do those two little things it can help cut your footprint down.
My carbon footprint was a lot lower then my country's average. But most of my carbon footprint comes from traveling because I drive around everywhere and I have been flying more. Shorten showers and turning off the lights will totally help and I plan on turning off more lights also to save electricity.
I agree with everyone talking about travel ! I had no idea how big of an impact just going on one trip would cause. Every time I'm tempted to throw out something recyclable because of convenience (trash cans are much more abundant on our campus than recycling bins), I stop and remind myself how I'm already at an ecological deficit this year.
My carbon footprint is way higher than the average persons in my area because of transportation. I am always in the car going to school, work and going out. To reduce my carbon footprint I am thinking about moving closer to where I go to school and work because they are both in the same area and I live about 30 minutes away from the area.
Wow, that's crazy that your footprint was 20 thousand over the average Chinese person, but I wasn't that much surprised that traveling was your highest contributor. In fact, my highest category was transportation, which makes sense because it would take up a large amount of resources for every trip. Im curious though, do you drive yourself places, do you commute on local transportation at all, and do you travel as in travel using airplanes? Anyways, I'm sure that your suggestions of taking shorter showers and turning your lights off when you're not using them will definitely help lower your footprint. Additionally, you could try and see if your usage of heating and cooling contributes a lot to your footprint, and if it does then perhaps changing what you use during hot and cold months.
That is a lot like my footprint because it was about 20 thousand over the US average as well and for the same reasons. Apparently my transportation takes up most of my footprint and I could improve by taking the bus. However you could reduce your footprint by yes taking shorter showers and maybe trying to reduce how much you travel or where to. I wish you the best of luck.
My carbon footprint is also greater than the average person where I live. My transportation and home energy are what makes my over all carbon footprint so high. My carbon footprint is 21,486 kgs of CO2 per year, while the average is 13,115. One way to reduce my carbon footprint would be to carpool more.
My carbon footprint was lower then the average of my region. I live in Florida and the average Co2 output was 13115kgs per year my output is 12562 kgs of CO2 per year. I'm below average for the region but my transportation is almost twice as much as average. The average for the region is 3447kgs while mine is 7770kgs its pretty crazy. I only took one flight this year and that was to New York it was only a 3 hour flight so i thought it wouldn't affect my transportation that bad but it did. It is mind boggling how much flying affect a persons carbon footprint one flight can make a difference.
