Students from around the world calculated their class mean and standard deviations for their footprints and posted them on our world map.
Do you see differences across the globe? If so, why do you think those differences exist?
Did you use the calculator to try to reduce your footprint down to the average from a citizen of another country? What changes would you have to make to lower your footprint in this way? Are you going to try and take some of these actions in your daily life?

2º Celsius
If the global average temperatures warm more than 2º Celsius, we risk experiencing massive dangers that come with global warming. These include super droughts, mass extinction, and extreme sea level rise in costal cities. The biggest contributor to the rising of the global average temperature is adding carbon to the atmosphere. We have already raised the temperature 0.85º since 1880, with the industrial revolution, and expert from the Global Climate Forum in Germany say we can raise it to 2º within a few decades. That is our lifetime. We have to cut back out CO2 emission, and that is going to take a global effort. We are capable of stopping short of 2º, but everyone needs to work together. We can start with education and social media. We need to spread the word of how our small actions ripple out. We need people to understand that these dangerous side effects of global warming will affect them in their lifetime. We may not live to see the world crash and burn than ks to our actions, but we very well could. We are the generation that needs to make a change. We need to educate people, and use all forms of social media to get people involved and enthusiastic.
here is the article I got my information on if anyone is interested: http://www.cnn.com/2015/04/21/opinions/ … index.html
Sam, you really did a great job in providing an interesting topic to speak about, how it can relate to all of lives, and how we can all take part in bettering our world. It is very important that we as a society come to realize that it is not always just the big contributions and huge movements that make the biggest impact. Often times it is the small changes that have a drastic impact. According to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), 25 simple ways were provided as to how we can reduce our carbon footprints in the workplace, at home, on the road, and even at school. Through simple actions like unplugging a charger when you are not using it, shutting off the light in the room when you leave, and trying to use less water; these are all very easy ways that we can reduce our own carbon footprint and promote others to do the same, which will eventually lead to a cleaner and more sustainable Earth. I think you also brought up a great point that we need to spread these ideas with others and not just practice them by ourselves. Through easy-to-communicate actions such as social media and talking to others, this could really help to quickly pass along information to others so that we can make a rapid improvement in our society in a very short period of time. It is important that we encourage others to act in a more environmentally manner, starting small and eventually reaching a huge outcome.
