Student Footprints

Students from around the world calculated their class mean and standard deviations for their footprints and posted them on our world map.

Do you see differences across the globe? If so, why do you think those differences exist?

Did you use the calculator to try to reduce your footprint down to the average from a citizen of another country? What changes would you have to make to lower your footprint in this way? Are you going to try and take some of these actions in your daily life?

Carbon footprint ( China )

gord0n

Hello, everybody in this website, after I finished the calculation of my footprint, I compare to the average, I discover that my calculation is much higher than the average. I think the reason why everybody is that high is because the transport. My solution for this is we can drive less cars and we go somewhere can by bus or biking. The other solution is plant more trees, because trees can do the photosynthesis to change the CO2 to the oxygen.

Planting more trees would definitely be a very big jump in the right direction. Trees would give off more oxygen and other beneficial things. Biking would also be a great solution but it is not always feasible for everyone. Another solution would be carpooling places, as well as the bus.

Driving less will definitely help reduce your footprint.  Driving by bus uses much less energy resources so this would be very helpful.  Along with driving a bus you can walk more too that would be a great idea!

I think that those ideas are great. Also, if you can't ride your bike everywhere try carpooling. If someone is going to the same place you are, then it should be alright. Planting trees is a great idea, but if you live in an area that doesn't have many parks or recreational areas it might be hard. Also, taking shorter sowers reduces the carbon footprint too. And, if you shower using only cold water, then that reduces it even more! I have a project for school and the challenge is to reduce our own carbon footprints. I'm trying to take a shorter shower using cold water. It helps if you can stand the temperature.

I agree that driving less will definitely help reduce your footprint. My total carbon footprint was 11,514 kgs. My transportation was also my highest category. My total transportation was 6,373 kgs. To lower your transportation category, you could car pool with people, or you could drive an eco-friendly vehicle, etc.
