Wastewater Gardens
Freshwater is one of the worlds natural resources that is quickly running out so it is important to preserve what freshwater we have left. One of the things that uses a large amount of freshwater are sewage systems. Every day an adult produces an average of 200 to 500 grams of feces. With our population right now, that’s about 500 million tons per year! All of this waste will then go through a sewage system that uses approximately 8000 tons of water to process one ton of feces. After this process this waste usually ends up being dumped into waterways and then after sometime, it makes it into the ocean.
Wastewater Gardens can help to find a solution to this problem. A wastewater garden is a man made wetland that uses plants such as papyrus, lotus to detoxify the water. Here is a link to the Wastewater Garden that provides some more information. http://www.globalecotechnics.com/projec … r-gardens/
