Aggressive Driving
While doing research on how I can reduce my carbon footprint, I found out that aggressive driving (speeding, rapid acceleration, and hard braking) can result in a higher carbon footprint than sensible driving because of the amount of gas it wastes. According to www.fueleconomy.gov, aggressive driving can, "lower your gas mileage by 33% at highway speeds and by 5% around town." Not to mention that sensible driving is much safer than aggressive driving. If you can avoid driving aggressively, you could be saving up to $1 per gallon. It may not seem like much now, but the dollars really add up. Driving aggressively wastes gas and money. It means you have to fill up your car more often, raising the level of your carbon footprint. You might not be able to drive right now, but I bet you know at least one aggressive driver. One way to drive sensibly is to observe the speed limit. This may seem obvious, but gas mileage usually starts decreasing rapidly at speeds above 50 mph. If you regularly drive over 50 mph, you will have to make more trips to the gas station. Another way to drive sensibly is to remove excess weight. According to the same website, an extra 100 pounds can reduce your MPG by 2%. That may not seem like a lot, but it really adds up over time. In conclusion, driving sensibly can help lower our carbon footprint immensely. It can reduce the amount of trips we take to the gas station, saving money and lowering our carbon footprint. Driving sensibly is about so much more than money though, you could be saving a life.
Cars use a lot of gas than you may think. And the gas doesn't just go no where, it releases into the air and causes pollution. Carbon Dioxide is released into the air every time you drive. No matter if your going to the store or to the doctors you are releasing carbon dioxide and many other toxic gases into the air. And when you release carbon dioxide into the air, a greenhouse effect traps it all in earth's atmosphere and causes global warming which is a type of climate change.
If people would try and help cut down the amount of carbon dioxide released into the air caused by driving, things would be a lot better. An example of helping cut it down is carpooling. Carpooling is a very efficient way of helping because instead of using two or more cars and emitting double or more amounts carbon dioxide into the air, you can majorly help reduce the carbon dioxide admittance in the air.
