Drought and Water Control
Being from California, drought is a constant concern of mine and all those in the state. Having to deal with water restrictions has brought into view the true scarcity of fresh water in the world and the true amount of water that we use. Although it is all good and fine that we have to mandatorily have to reduce water usage during drought, it brings up the question of water consumption when not in a period of droubt. Is it really sustainable to use X amount more water just because we are not in a droubt? After all, the total amount of fresh water in the world does not fluctuate. I think that water restriction is a conversation that we need to start having sooner rather than later.
Here is a link containing information about the water on earth from the U.S. geological survey: http://water.usgs.gov/edu/earthhowmuch.html
I definitely agree with you on how we should be concerned about how much water we have regardless of if there is a drought or not. There will always be a limited amount of water here on earth, and I do not want to see our generation use it all up. I found a website http://www.amnh.org/exhibitions/past-ex … /water-use that was very helpful in informing me of some statistics about how much water we have versus how much we use.
I agree. Four years ago in Houston, we were going through a drought. During that year everyone was very concerned about how much water they were using like how often they were using the sprinklers or the sink, but now since we are no longer in a drought no one pays attention to issues like that. We tend to think since it is not affecting us now that it is not a problem. There needs to be more of a concern for not only our current supply of water but also how our future water supply looks if we keep using as much as we use now. This issue spreads not only to the issue of water but also to many other aspects of the climate. Many people do not think about how their actions now will affect the environment later.
