The Many Benefits of LED bulbs
Recently my family began replacing CFL bulbs around my house with LED bulbs. Initially I was confused because I had previously never heard of LEDs and their many benefits over CFLs. So I decided to do some research and was shocked at what I found. A LED bulb uses about 90% of the energy a incandescent bulb uses, and the U.S. Department of Energy think we are capable of reducing the electricity used for lighting in our country by 50% by converting to LED based light sources. While LED bulbs run a bit pricier then CFLs or incandescent bulbs, they are supposed to last about 7 years! That is far longer then any other type of light bulb. Also because LED's use such a small amount of energy, they can drastically reduce your family's energy bill and end up saving you a lot of money. For more information of the benefits of LED's you can check out http://www.myledlight.com/benefitsofledlighting.aspx
Although I totally agree that LED bulbs are better, we SHOULD take into account the brightness- LED bulbs do not produce as many lumens-per-watt. This means more actual LEDs are required to produce the same amounts of light as incandescent or CFL bulbs. For certain uses, non-LED bulbs may be more efficient. Generally around the house, LEDs are fine.
