Plastic Replacements

sodeste

There are actually a lot of really cool ideas to make eco-friendly plastic. One solution is to add PDCs, or prodegradant concentrates, to the same plastic that we already have. These let plastic biodegrade by encouraging oxidation, which takes it apart into smaller and smaller pieces until microorganisms can break them down into harmless, naturally occurring substances. Milk protein is also a solution; casein, the principle protein in milk, can be made into a substance similar to polystyerene, which is what makes up those little packing beads. With the addition of a silicate clay, sodium montmorillonite, casein isn't brittle and it still easily degrades. Yet another innovation is the use of chicken feathers, which have a lot of keratin. Chicken feather plastic would use cheap resources, and is stronger than other agriculturally sourced plastics.

Obviously these all have their issues, mostly due to complications in mass manufacturing. However, I do believe we are  on the right track to solving the plastic problem.

I think this would be a very good idea to try and implement, but the problem is these new things are  more expensive to make, meaning companies won't want to invest in them. We need to create cleaner solutions that are cheaper than what we have now

I'm hoping that we can put more focus onto projects like these so that we can make them cheaper; everything is expensive to make at the beginning because the manufacturing process hasn't been refined. It's always possible to make it cheaper, but right now it isn't because not enough effort and funding is being put into these solutions.

yes they are expensive yet it would be much more effective if we all just implemented it and stuck to it.

Plastic is ruining the environment. I'm totally down to get rid of plastic entirely and I will try to do my part

There should be more recycling

Yeah I'm honestly down for that
