Mechanical pencil or classic wooden pencil?
When sitting in class in I notice that around half of the class is writing with a mechanical pencil and the other half of the class is writing with a wooden one. Which one is better for the environment? This is a sustainable issue that would probably be relatively easy to fix and will come with a variety or perspectives and preferences. From what I see, both have benefits and cons. For example, when using a wooden pencil and one sharpens it and the shavings will go in the compost and can be used for composting. Though one would go through a wooden pencil quickly and eventually would have to throw it away in one of the three bins, having to choose between compost (because of the wood) or recycling (because of the metal end). On the other hand, a mechanical pencil can be reused and refilled with lead. Though unfortunately some peopIe get new mechanical pencils often and through away their old ones. I ask now, what type of pencil do you write with and why? What do you think are the benefits for the environment with either pencil?
