Hello! I live in Iceland, where it's really cold in the winter and not really that much hotter in the summer. I am in the high school on Laugarvatn and we were 15 who took the challenge. My score was 6229 kg of CO2 per year. I would say my score was pretty average compared to my classmates. My score was low compared to the average Icelander, which is 7883 kg of CO2 per year. I would totally like to hear your thoughts

Are you suprised by the fact that your footprint was low comapred to the average Icelander? What do you think are the reason for that?

Hello KristinnHrafnsson, my name is Kristy, I live in the United States and am currently in college. It's great to hear that your footprint is so low! What did you score highest in? I would look to reduce that score first. You might not be able to reduce the heating, Iceland is freezing and I can understand wanting to stay warm.

Its great that yours was low. Mine was as well though something's were higher then others. I think its good that some people aren't putting as much in the air though some put way more then they need to

I live in the United States! I thought my footprint would be about average for my region, but it was much higher! I scored very high in transportation, 12,416 kg. The only thing I can think of is that I took so many car rides to different states and used a lot of gas! It's great that yours was average! What do you do to keep it so low?

Yours is not that low compared to your average there its pretty close. My average here is 15,981.

I think that your carbon footprint is really good and so is your idea to lower it good job.

That is actually a pretty small carbon footprint. I assumed that it would be larger being in a cold climate that probably requires lots of heating

Your carbon footprint is very good compared to mine and the people around me.  My total footprint was over 16,000, and the average around me was about the same.  I would have thought your average would have been higher since it requires a lot of heat, but you must have other extremely efficient and "green" ways of living!

I would love to visit Iceland one day!  Here in Florida (USA), it gets EXTREMELY hot during the summer, with temperatures staying in the 90s and a heat index of 100+ (temperatures in Fahrenheit).  So unfortunately, with the heat, we usually have to leave our air conditioning on throughout the summer months.  I did buy some heat-resistant drapes this past year that seems to work to keep the heat out, and I'm not having to lower my air conditioner as much I usually need to.  I also have fans in most of my rooms, which helps circulate the air flow, making it cooler.

Hello! Iceland sounds like a really cool place (pun intended); I would like to learn Icelandic one day! The fact that your entire school's average is below the national average for most Icelanders is awesome. The national average here is much higher. Keep up the good work!

Do your homes and schools have alternate energy sources like solar panels, wind, or geothermal? What could you do to have more of these sources used?

Your footprint is a lot lower than mine. Mine was a lot lower than the average of my country I think that you are doing very well in your carbon emissions. I think that with lower transportation and home scores yours could be even lower

Mine was much higher than mine! Although we live in very different climates and locations. I live in the United States - NC exactly. How high was your transportation? I'm just wondering because that was my highest. I'm just curious because of the fact you live in such cold climates you don't have many options other than cars. The average Icelander is also much lower than that of North Carolina inhabitants. That's really fascinating how different locations have different footprints.
