What is the most realistic way to stop/slow Global Warming?

According to the ISCFC Carbon Calculator, “the way to have a “globally sustainable” footprint level, where atmospheric CO2 levels would stabilize at 450 ppm, is approximately 1,000 kg (= 2,204 lb) per capita!” which is much lower compared to the common American lifestyle, consuming and using so much more than what is good for the earth. The people would have to consume and use a fraction of what they usually use, because according to www.sciencedaily.com the average person produces 20 metric tons of carbon dioxide.

How can we stop this epidemic? Well, like I said, each person would have to use so much less that it seems impossible. There would have to be a huge, HUGE change in our way of thinking to accomplish such a momentous goal. It would be an event so big it would be unheard of.

Yet, I believe we can do it. Changes in human way of think on a scale that big has happened before. Think of the scientific revolution and the renaissance, and those seem so small now because we are so much smarter and more capable of rational thought than our ancestors. The human race i s a remarkable thing that is capable of huge change and great good, if we are in the right mindset about it. Let’s change the world, and have America be the forefront of this revolution.

I think another way to make our carbon footprint smaller is to grow the electric car industry. Electric cars will put so many less fumes into our atmosphere, and it won't negatively affect our ability to travel. It won't be a difficult transition from gas to electricity, and it's a very practical way to better our environment.

Stopping global warming is also a cooperative effort. What the government can do to support sustainable practices within the community is to improve the transit system. Our transit system are old and frequently require repair. If we can invest in better systems of transportation that limit the amount of cars on the road, then we will be models for the rest of the world and take a significant step towards combating climate change.
