The Evil Prius

Most people believe that the Prius are great for the environment because they get over fifty miles to the gallon. However the Prius has many cons. First off it still burns gasoline. Secondly in most american cites the Prius is a major polluter and releases many greenhouse gases such as, carbon dioxide, nitrous oxide, and carbon monoxide.

However, the Prius also has an electric motor that allows people to use less gas when they drive, so they effectively decrease carbon emissions. It may not be perfect, but its better than a full gasoline powered car

SO DOES MY DIESEL TRUCK BRO

If the person that owns the Prius does not drive it often, then it is bad for the environment. Each one of the hybrid batteries take lots of fossil fuels to make and release pollution. However, they are much better than fully gas powered cars in the long run, which is why if you plan to drive often with it, then no, its not evil, you just didn't do your research

Tommy - please give a source for the info that you have given. Yes, Prius' use gasoline, but less than other cars, so that is "better" right? The batteries are toxic and energetic to produce and need to be disposed of eventually, so they are not perfect. But from my understanding, they can be a much better alternative to a standard gas vehicle, depending on your driving habits,

Don't Teslas use 100% electric? Well, I guess prius will be the standard electric car until a 100% electric car becomes more affordable...

100% electric (plug in) cars may be more or less the wave of the future, but in the present you need to pay attention to where your electricity comes from. In Pennsylvania, where the electricity comes from coal, the total emissions associated with driving a plug in electric car would be worse than gas!

Generally I think Prius are better for the environment than other cars because they have higher gas milage and most of them are hybrid. I see you mention that Prius emit greenhouse gases. But in fact, all cars that rely on fossil fuel do, not just Prius. From this perspective, Prius is actually better than other cars. However, if you don't drive a hybrid Prius often, the huge amount of energy used to produced the car battery is wasted. And you waste money on the more expensive hybrid model compared to the cheaper one that runs on fossil fuel.

well instead of using gas powered cars you could go to electric and you could ride a bike or walk instead of poulliting the air with all the gases that come from cars.

The reason there is so much pollution from the Prius is because so many people drive one. The pollution would be much more if all of those people were driving regular cars. And there is no way for a car to not be burning gasoline in one way or another, unless it was solar powered.

My family owns a fully electric car and a hybrid; the Nissan Leaf and the Prius Prime. We also have solar panels in our house that completely cover the charging electricity for both cars. The gas burned in the Prius is also the same gas that is burned any other non-electric vehicle, and the only difference is that the Prius emits less gasoline per gallon than any other fully gas powered vehicle. The same gas means that the same greenhouse gasses are released when the gasoline is burned. So, the Prius is thus significantly more efficient in terms of emitting carbon into the atmosphere than any fully gas powered car. The average passenger vehicle emits about 255.4 grams of carbon dioxide per kilometer, whereas the Prius has "121 to 136 g/km of CO2" emitted. Thus concluding that the Prius is a more economically efficient vehicle than any gas operated passenger vehicle.
