Wild Fires

laurahLLHS

Did you know that wildfires contribute to a vicious cycle with global warming? Global warming has caused higher temperatures and harsher wildfires. This is because of drier conditions which also make great fuel for burning. So wildfires are intensified because of global warming but they also affect global warming which affects fires and on and on and on.
Fires let out CO2 but just how much? In “Wildfires Release as much CO2 as Cars” by Andrea Thompson it states, “... the study estimated that fires in the contiguous United States and Alaska release about 290 million metric tons of carbon dioxide a year, which is about 4 to 6 percent of the amount of the greenhouse gas that the nation releases through fossil fuel burning.” Fires are releases mass amounts of CO2 which increases global warming and fires and the cycle continues. What can we do to decrease wildfires?
