Public Transportation

CoolE

Over the weekend I was in the city of Los Angeles, located in the state of California. LA is an extremely large city and the second most populated city in the United States. The city is known as the center of the film and music industry but it is also known to have a lot of traffic. I had always wondered why LA streets and highways were filled with cars driving to and from. I then realized at my last visit that the city has almost no public transportation sources and the city is so large, it's hard to not drive if you have to go certain places. New York City has the subway, London has the Tube, and the Bay Area has BART. Not being able to see the stars at night and being stuck in traffic for over an hour made me realize the importance of public transportation and the correlation it has with people's carbon footprints.

Yeah, though I do see your point, La still has many buses, electric rails and taxi's. Transportation is a huge issue in our carbon footprint. After using the calculator I notice that transportation was the biggest polluter and had the greatest impact on my footprint. I feel as though flights have the greatest impact, I flew to Arizona and then Mexico round trip and it greatly added to my carbon footprint. Luckily, Boeing recently released more energy efficient airplanes. I hope that in the future more companies will make an effort and try to do this, regardless of the price.

I think you are right, the transportation was the biggest polluter and had the greatest impact on my footprint. If LA had more busses, it definitely be way better for the environment, Although there are many busses in LA, they aren't put on the freeways of the main streets because the traffic is way too much to bare. Transportation will always greatly effect carbon footprints.
