Sunny SJR Student Footprint
Hello folks,
I am Jaz and a older student at St. Johns River State College here in Sunny Florida USA. Being that I'm from Seattle, Washington and grew up with my grandparents I was not all that surprized at the results of my footprint. Here they are.

Transportation would be a lot lower if I had my way but unlike Seattle there is not a well planned out bus system out here. In Seattle I use to bike, walk. and take the bus just about everywhere. Here I have to take the car a bit more than I like. Guess being older has its limits.
Still now that our kids have moved on both my husband and I are cutting down little by little around the house. Our plans is to in a few year start traveling around. While we use paper bags at home we have many uses for them. We have pet ratties and use them for their bedding and latter in the garden to help the soil. We try to reuse as much as we can around the house. We also never toss out TP rolls, they also go to the ratties for them to chew up for fun and play.
One thing my husband and I are doing to reduce our foot print is to help out our neighbor. He reuses and recycles items that folks no longer has uses for any more. Before we toss out any old electronic item we let him have it. Often he is able to reuse part of it for one of his many projects.
We are also buying less and reusing more items around the house. Planning out little herb and veggie gardens as well as planting fruit trees and bushes that do well here in Florida. We also do not use pesticides instead we use natural means to help our plants survive as well as encourage the little lizards, harmless snakes, bees, dragonflies, and other good bugs to hang around our yard. For the past year we have not had to use any pesticide at all. Mints have kept the ants away and it has been great. A great herb and keeps the bugs away too.
